The Beginning
The Upper Ferntree Gully Cricket Club was established in 1926 also known as Upper Gully. The first game was played at Gulliver's Estate against Ferny Creek on 3rd April 1926. Upper Ferntree Gully won it by 36 runs.
A week later the second game held at home against Prahran Manchester Unity, saw the home side victorious by 21 runs. The decision of the match rested in the team scoring the most runs in 1½ hours. The Gully teams scoring 21 runs more than their opponents were therefore the winners. The scores were UFTG 9/121 (H. Tainsch 39, J. Fleming 31*, M. Henry 14*) def Prahran M.U. 7/100 (H. Tainsch, M. Henry & H. Rickard all took 2 wickets).
The inaugural full season of cricket played by the club took place in 1926/27 when the club took part in arranged competitive matches.
